The train network in England

The most famous way to travel to England by train is with the Eurostar. If you have made this journey, you will arrive at London St Pancras Int’l, the international train station in London. This way, you can easily travel from the Netherlands to England by high-speed train.

International train companies

If you arrange a train journey for England, you are likely to use an international train company. The most well-known in England is the Eurostar, which has London St Pancras Int’l as its home station. This way, you can easily travel by train from Amsterdam to London to the other side of the channel.

Eurostar, the English high-speed train, travels directly to London via the Channel Tunnel. You can board in the Netherlands, Belgium, and certain major cities in France.

Regional train companies

Once you arrive in London by international train, there is a chance that you will want to travel further through England. There are also various regional trains that depart from St Pancras station. For example, you can travel to the “Midlands” and northern England with East Midlands Railway.

With Southeastern, you can travel on bullet trains to East London and travel at speeds of up to 230 km/h. The third regional train departing from London is Thameslink, which runs from Bedford and Luton through London to Brighton.

Most trains depart from London or pass through London, each from its own station. Trains to the west usually leave from Paddington station and trains to the north from King’s Cross. Other train companies in England include:

  • Avanti West Coast
  • Gatwick Express
  • GWR
  • Great Northern
  • Lumo
  • Northern
  • ScotRail
  • Southern Western Railway
  • Virgin Trains
  • West Midlands Railway

The bus network in England

If you have arrived in England by bus or train, it is also possible to travel further by bus. Upon arrival in London, in addition to trains and buses, you can also choose the extensive metro network. You can use the London Underground and all other forms of public transport in London with the Oyster Card.

International bus companies

When traveling by bus through Europe, you quickly think of FlixBus, but you can also travel a lot by bus within Great Britain. This is the cheapest way to travel and is also called Coach Travel. An important provider of such travel is National Express, with over 1200 destinations in England, Scotland, and Wales. There are also other companies that organize trips in England and just beyond.

  • National Express, travels to 1200 destinations from the north of Scotland to the south of England
  • Megabus, low ticket prices for various routes through England, Scotland, and Wales
  • Scottish Citylink, offers trips in Scotland and also from London and northern England to Scotland
  • FlixBus, organizes all kinds of European bus trips for a low price

Regional bus companies

With the England bus, you can travel far and that for a low price. However, the less populated a place is or the further into the countryside, the fewer buses there are. These trips are therefore considerably more expensive than those in London, for example. In addition to bus services, you can also use the metro in London and Newcastle, and there is a tram in Manchester and Nottingham.

Some of the bus companies that offer regional England bus travel are:

  • Abello London Ltd
  • Arriva
  • Blue Triangle Buses Ltd
  • First
  • Go-Ahead
  • London Central Bus Company Ltd
  • Metrobus Ltd
  • Oxford Bus Company
  • Sullivan Bus & Coach Ltd
