The bus network in Belgium
The Belgian national bus network
The Belgian bus network is a bit peculiar in that it is dominated by three main public transport companies:
- TEC (Transports En Commun), which is in charge of serving the Walloon part of the country.
- De Lijn, which is in charge of the bus network in Flanders
- The STIB (Société de Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles), which provides the bus network in and around Brussels.
However, you should know that some other bus companies are also available in Belgium, especially for cross-border travelers. Among these bus companies are :
- Hansea, a group that works in cooperation with TEC and De Lijn for urban and regional connections throughout the country, as well as a bus service from Belgium and the Netherlands for international trips.
- DK’BUS, a company based in Dunkirk, France, which offers cross-border trips to Belgium.
- Ilevia, the bus network of the city of Lille, which also has a cross-border connection to Belgium.
- Transvilles, a bus company based in Valenciennes, which offers bus trips to Belgium.
- Stibus, a bus company based in Maubeuge and which offers a line to Belgium.
- ASEAG, based in Aachen, Germany, which offers buses to Belgium.
- The RGTR, a bus company based in Luxembourg, which has some lines to Wallonia.
International bus companies in Belgium
If you want to travel by bus internationally to and from Belgium, but you want to go a little further than the border, two bus companies are a must.
FlixBus, a bus company that serves 15 cities in Belgium, but also a wide variety of European destinations, such as Amsterdam, Berlin, or Paris.
BlaBlacar Bus, the new Ouibus, which also offers bus trips within the country, but also to many other European countries, including the Netherlands, France and Germany.
